Our new addition to the family

So I’ve been very quiet on the blog and social media lately. And that’s because I’ve spent the majority of the last few months feeling exhausted and always within grabbing distance of the sick bucket. But if ever there is an occasion where 24/7 vomming is a good thing, this is it.

Yep, I’m growing a human. A new addition which will make us a family of five. It’s been a rough start to an otherwise very exciting time of our lives, but I’m over the worst of the sickness now (touch wood) and feeling so much better so this is my first blog post in around 3 months!

24 Hours with a Newborn Baby

I wrote this post when Clara was just under 5 weeks old, and had planned to type it up into a blog post soon after. In my sleep deprived state I forgot about it, until I recently came across it in an old notebook (almost 3 years later!). This is my account of 24 hours as a Mum to a 5 week old and a 3 year old… it involves sick in my bra, 12 breastfeeds in 18 hours and a good old dose of mum guilt.

3:45am – Woken up by Clara crying for a feed. I’ve had 3.5 hours of uninterrupted sleep which is something of a record, probably the most I’ve had since before she was born.

4:35am – Wake up suddenly, realising I’ve fallen asleep feeding Clara, who herself is now happily asleep in my arms. Put her back in her moses basket, hoping I won’t see her again until 7am.

23 Month Update

It really amazes me just how much Clara grows and develops every single day. She’s like a sponge, just soaking up everything around her. I try to think back even three years ago when Izzy was Clara’s age and I feel guilty that I can’t remember how old she was when she did certain things. At least for Clara I will have these updates to look back on, even if I am pretty rubbish at keeping up with them (it’s been 3 months since our last update!).

20 Month Update

Over the past two months, since our 18 month update, Clara has learnt loads of new words – hot, cold, snack, bag, school, Peppa, ‘Jor’ (George Pig), Doc (McStuffins), fish, shoes, socks, more, again. She’s even started putting words together, two or three at a time – “Shoe on”, “don’t know”, “want milk”, “Daddy’s car” “Bel gone school”. She tells me if she’s cold, if her food is hot, if she wants a drink or snack. When I get in the house she insists “Shoe off” and “Coat off”.

Her favourite story at the moment is ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. Nursery have been reading it to her, as when I started to she already knew it and said ‘Uh Oh’ and ‘Oh No’ in the right places. Now we have to read it pretty much every night before bed. (more…)

18 Months Update

In the last few months, Clara has developed into a fully fledged Toddler. Complete with tantrums and an amazing personality. She knows her own mind, what she likes and what she doesn’t, and isn’t afraid to tell us exactly what she wants! Even without knowing many words, she has her own special way of communicating with us.

She loves her food…
…and she knows exactly where her favourite things are kept! When we get home she goes to her cupboard, gets out a plastic bowl and then stands underneath the snack cupboard, pointing. Or she goes into the cupboard where the Pom Bears are kept and tries to help herself. (more…)
