Time to give your bedroom a Spring makeover

Spring is almost here (it officially begins on the 20th March!) so what better time to give your home a makeover and put some colour into your life?

8 steps to decluttering and organising your home

Any flat surface in our home seems to be a magnet for clutter. Those annoying piles of junk build up – sometimes they get moved from one surface to another, in a half-hearted attempt to tackle them, or sometimes they are just there so long we just accept them as part of the furniture. But having stuff all over the house not only looks messy, it makes it harder to clean and means we waste lots of time looking for things. When things have a home, it makes tidying up a lot less painful!

So began the big sort out. An attempt to get rid of the excess and better organise everything else. We still have far more stuff than we need (of course we do, with two kids there are tons of toys and other child-related paraphernalia littering our house), but as with most things in life I’m going for an ‘every little helps’ mentality. Our Weekly Roundup #4

It’s been wet and windy this week, making for miserable school runs! There has also been a lot of cake (baking and eating) as I helped out at Izzy’s school fundraiser, and a lot of dancing as Izzy practices for her second medal test in a few weeks. Generally it’s been a very quiet week, and as I don’t have much news I’d hoped to make this a photo-heavy post, but after looking through my phone and camera I realised I’m getting really bad at taking photos. As in, I don’t take enough. I really need to learn a few of the features on my new camera and remember to take more photos of the girls, even when they are just doing every day, normal things.

Our Weekly Roundup #3

Learner of the Week
Since starting school in September, every single week Izzy has come home and told me who the Learner of the Week is – not just for her class but for all 5 classes. She tells me partly with excitement for her friends, and partly with disappointment. Sometimes she will ask what she can do to get picked, and tell us her plans for ‘trying harder’.

So when she came bounding through the door on Monday with her certificate, screeching in a pitch only dogs could hear, we knew this was a pretty big deal for her. She was picked as Learner of the Week for her hard work in phonics, and told us how excited she was when her name was called out in assembly. She dragged me into her classroom to show me the special hoodie that she got to wear all week and was just over the moon. “I can’t believe it, Mummy! I can’t believe I am finally Learner of the Week!

8 Storage Solutions for Toys and Books

Toys and books just seem to take over our house. It doesn’t matter how often we go through them and relegate things that are no longer played with to the loft, charity shop or rubbish tip, the collection just continues to grow. Christmas, and Izzy’s birthday right afterwards, brought a whole new influx of exciting toys and games, all which needed homes. I also committed to giving the whole house a good sort out during January, getting rid of things we no longer need and reorganising everything else, so having some good storage systems in place for toys is a key part of this. Of course we still have toys strewn all over the house, some which are too big to ever really be tidied away, but at least most things have a home!
