A Weekend in Bowness-on-Windermere

A few weeks ago the Hubby and I managed to nab a child-free weekend. We thought we’d make the most of the opportunity and have a couple of nights away before the arrival of baby number 3. It was a double celebration – falling the weekend after my birthday and our 5 year wedding anniversary.

We headed to Bowness-on-Windermere. We are lucky to live close enough to the Lake District to spend plenty of day trips there, but it’s also nice to have a night or two away without having to travel too far – especially in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy!

The Lakes Distillery: Gin, alpacas and sticky toffee pudding

Set in the heart of the Lake District, next to the River Derwent, the Lakes Distillery is an award winner producer of gin, vodka and whisky – as well as home to some very friendly alpacas!

Last weekend we were invited along to the Distillery to try out some of the amazing food at the Bistro and meet the ‘Alpacaly Ever After’ย herd that lives on site.

The food at the Bistro is amazing. We went on a Sunday and my husband and I both had the roast beef with yorkshire pudding. It was so tasty, but the best part of the meal was the warm chocolate pudding with mango salsa and pistachio ice cream – it was delicious. (more…)
