The Lakes Distillery: Gin, alpacas and sticky toffee pudding

Set in the heart of the Lake District, next to the River Derwent, the Lakes Distillery is an award winner producer of gin, vodka and whisky – as well as home to some very friendly alpacas!

Last weekend we were invited along to the Distillery to try out some of the amazing food at the Bistro and meet the ‘Alpacaly Ever After’ herd that lives on site.

The food at the Bistro is amazing. We went on a Sunday and my husband and I both had the roast beef with yorkshire pudding. It was so tasty, but the best part of the meal was the warm chocolate pudding with mango salsa and pistachio ice cream – it was delicious. (more…)

Our July Roundup

July was a busy month – we moved house at the end of June so we have mainly been getting our new home sorted, but we are now happily settled in and ready to catch up on everything else that’s been put on hold while we’ve unpacked, painted and built furniture – like blogging. I really enjoyed writing our Weekly roundups and they were a good way to document all the little things that have happened – which is the whole reason I started this blog in the first place, as an online diary of our family life. But, it was hard to keep up and weekly posts turned into fortnightly or even less frequently, so I’ve decided to start a monthly roundup instead. Maybe I will have better luck keeping up with this one!

So what else happened in July?

Our Weekly Roundup #30

As January draws to a close, I can’t believe we are already one month in to 2017. I lost a week to tonsillitis, but other than that the year has got off to quite a productive start. We’ve put our house on the market, I took a few days off work to get the house decluttered and organised, Izzy turned 6 and we’ve had a few free weekends to spend some time together as a family, which has been nice after the hectic build up to Christmas.

  • This weekend we celebrated Chinese New Year. Izzy and Clara loved trying different food (with chopsticks), making lanterns, dancing to Chinese music, dressing up as a dragon and watching Mulan and Kung Fu Panda 3.

Our Weekly Roundup #26

  • Half term started off well enough with a trip to the cinema to see Trolls (which is awesome by the way!) and a visit to Keswick, but unfortunately went downhill from there. We were all struck down with a tummy bug which pretty much wrote off the rest of the week.
  • My two nieces were staying with us for a few days so we had a few nice treats planned. On Tuesday we had a day out with my sister and her two boys. The older kids used the climbing wall while the younger ones explored the adventure play area. At one point Clara got stuck in the ball pool, which meant that I then got stuck in my attempt to rescue her! We then visited an optical illusion attraction which was a lot of fun, right until Clara freed the mother of all nappy fillers and we had to buy her some emergency trousers – surprisingly the only children’s trousers we could find in the Lake District was a pair of waterproofs. She didn’t let it bother her though and was quite happy!

Our Weekly Roundup #16

  • During half term we had an amazing family trip to Legoland and Chester Zoo. We all had a great time and the girls went crazy when they realised we were going to Legoland – as we pulled up to the entrance! All the way in the car they had been shouting that we were going Slough and were really excited even though they had no idea what they were going to do there. I’ve got a couple of posts planned all about Legoland, which I’ll hopefully post next weekIMG_20160604_081941
