When we started talking about moving house, Clara wasn’t too impressed. She kept saying that she didn’t want to move and she liked our old house. One of the things that made her come round was the promise of a bigger bedroom, decorated any way she liked. Of course she wanted a dinosaur-themed room. She loves her new home now, and not just because of her dinosaur bedroom, although I think that helps!
Letting her pick her own theme and colours was the least we could do, given that little Clara-hand-me-down now has all of her big sister’s old furniture in her room, while Izzy got new things. She doesn’t seem to mind – especially as it meant trading in her toddler bed for a big girl one! We did buy her a few new things to make her room her own though, and I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. (more…)
We’ve been in our new house for about 6 weeks now. And we feel very much at home.
It’s been a busy few weeks of unpacking, organising, decorating and building furniture. But, we are getting there and with the exception of a couple of boxes we have yet to find homes for, we are happily settled in.
The girls both love it here so much. Izzy has been able to play out with her friends, which is something she was unable to do at our old house. She knows some of our neighbours from school and it didn’t take long until word got around that there were new playmates moving onto the street – I think Izzy had barely been in the house for half an hour when there was a swarm of kids on the drive asking if she could go out to play!
Starting a family is one of the stages in your life when home becomes more important than ever. You want a happy, stable home that will suit your family lifestyle, and you might be thinking about moving to find it. Moving home when you are expanding your family is about much more than just needing extra space – although that is a big factor. You might be considering moving closer to a good school, or you might just feel like your current home isn’t really designed for life with a young family.
We are moving house in a few days and the main reason is that we have simply outgrown our current home. With two young children, we would like more space and a bigger garden for them to play out in. We had a list of criteria of things we wanted from our perfect home, and all centred on finding somewhere that is more suitable for our family life.
Spring is almost here (it officially begins on the 20th March!) so what better time to give your home a makeover and put some colour into your life?
You don’t have to spend a lot of time or blow the budget on a complete overhaul – just choosing a few new items will brighten up any room. We are bringing you some ideas to inject some colour into your bedroom, in partnership with Yorkshire Linen.
Toys and books just seem to take over our house. It doesn’t matter how often we go through them and relegate things that are no longer played with to the loft, charity shop or rubbish tip, the collection just continues to grow. Christmas, and Izzy’s birthday right afterwards, brought a whole new influx of exciting toys and games, all which needed homes. I also committed to giving the whole house a good sort out during January, getting rid of things we no longer need and reorganising everything else, so having some good storage systems in place for toys is a key part of this. Of course we still have toys strewn all over the house, some which are too big to ever really be tidied away, but at least most things have a home!
