In 2017 Chinese New Year falls on Saturday 28th January, marking the beginning of the year of the Rooster. It’s a great opportunity to learn about another culture through food and crafts, so I’ve put together some ideas for how you could celebrate. In some communities in China, the celebrations last for over 2 weeks, starting with a family ‘reunion’ dinner on Chinese New Year’s Eve and fireworks to chase off evil spirits on New Year’s Day, and ending with the lantern festival on the 15th night – with plenty of other celebrations in between. There a lot of things I love about Christmas, but one of the best things about the festive season is gathering everyone around the table for a full roast dinner with all the trimmings.
As part of a big family, Christmas dinners were always a hectic affair with everyone crowded around the table on mismatched chairs. That’s part of the fun, and spending time with family is what Christmas is all about. In recent years we’ve hosted Christmas at our own home; sometimes just us and the kids, sometimes with our families. Given the space (and a big enough table) I’d happily have a house full for the festive feast. And that’s before you even think about making a start on the housework. So when it comes to mealtimes, cooking healthy meals from scratch is probably the last thing you have time for!
So when Clara and I were asked to try out some Kiddyum frozen meals they sounded like they could be the answer. On the days I’m not working, I’m chauffeuring my eldest daughter to after-school dance classes and swimming lessons, so by the time we get home the kids are starving and don’t want to wait ages while I cook tea. I need to get something on the table pretty quick, but at the same time I want to make sure my children are eating healthy and nutritious food. (more…)
The sun making an appearance last week was the only excuse we needed to dig out the picnic blanket and have lunch in the garden. Izzy loves having a picnic. In fact, she loves anything that involves food, so it’s unsurprising that eating outside makes it on to her list of favourite things to do.
Ella’s Kitchen have brought out a new range of tasty, organic snacks for babies and toddlers.
A couple of weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised when the postman delivered a box full of snacks for Clara to try out. She’s had a great time putting them through the Clara Taste Test!
