As a Cumbrian born and bred, I know it’s far from grim up North. We’ve partnered with The Cumberland Building Society to shine a light on all that is great about our county, through the #GrinUpNorth campaign.
When The Cumberland Building Society asked me to take part in their #GrinUpNorth campaign and profile my favourite place in Cumbria, my only issue was picking just one. I’m incredibly lucky to have the Lake District on my doorstep – in fact I probably have one of the most picturesque commutes to work ever, right through the heart of Cumbria. However, as well as the fells and lakes that this area is famous for, we also have the benefit of living next to a beautiful coastline that overlooks the Irish Sea.
There a lot of things I love about Christmas, but one of the best things about the festive season is gathering everyone around the table for a full roast dinner with all the trimmings.
As part of a big family, Christmas dinners were always a hectic affair with everyone crowded around the table on mismatched chairs. That’s part of the fun, and spending time with family is what Christmas is all about. In recent years we’ve hosted Christmas at our own home; sometimes just us and the kids, sometimes with our families. Given the space (and a big enough table) I’d happily have a house full for the festive feast. Of course, it might be a different story if I was the one cooking, but luckily my Husband takes care of that!
At the beginning of December we visited Center Parcs at Whinfell Forest in Cumbria. It was our third visit to the Winter Wonderland and it’s always a lovely way to start our Christmas celebrations.
It was a shame that the day before we went the girls both started to feel ill, with temperatures over 40 degrees, so they were both pretty tired and off their food for the first few days. They didnt let it stop them having fun and joining in. The In-laws joined us there as they have in previous years – it gives the kids chance to see them near Christmas as they live a few hours drive away. It also meant we had babysitters too!
