Mikey the Monkey, Gina the Giraffe and the rest of the band head to Rio in the latest story in the Jungle Jam series – and you could win your very own copy in our giveaway!

Last year we reviewed the first Jungle Jam book – which you can read all about here – and the girls loved it. So when we were asked if we would like to review the second instalment, of course I said yes.

Izzy and Clara love books, especially at bedtime. We settled down to read the book together and as soon as Clara saw it she was excited as she enjoys listening to the first book. We read it through once and straight away Clara asked for it again – but the second time she started to join in a bit more, finishing off some of the catchy rhymes and asking questions about what was happening in the book.

The book tells the story of the Jungle Jam Band visiting Brazil to play a concert. They meet a friendly Macaw (Clara didn’t like it when I tried to give him an accent – I don’t think I was very convincing!) and explore a new country with new food, music, instruments and experiences. While most of the band are having a great time, poor Gina the Giraffe is struggling a bit – trying new things and meeting new people can sometimes cause children to feel worried and uncertain, so its a simple theme which readers can relate to. Like the first book, which is all about working together as a team, there’s a clear message about overcoming your fears and giving things a try.

Izzy, who is 6 and has been learning to read over the past year, was able to read some of the story to her little sister. The large text and short, snappy sentences make it perfect for young readers.

The Jungle Jam books are written by husband and wife team Noam and Louise Lederman. They have combined their love of music, writing and education to create a series of stories which focus on key development skills, while also inspiring a love for and knowledge of music. The book also includes an activity page, and the girls had fun trying to find all the musical instruments hidden amongst the streets of Brazil, while Izzy enjoyed learning the facts about the country at the end of the book. I don’t know about the kids, but I’m looking forward to seeing where the Jungle Jam band head off to next on their adventures!

We were kindly sent a copy of Jungle Jam in Brazil in exchange for a honest review. You can find out more about both books at www.jungle-jam.com.

  1. What a fab book, and it’s lovely to hear that your children are enjoying it so much. I really like it when they want to read it again, but that does get a bit boring on the 3rd read. Soon they’ll know the words off by heart. Thanks for linking up at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x
