This has very much been my week. As in, I don’t have much to write about the kids, as I have barely seen them! I have missed them loads but I’ve had a huge dose of ‘not being mummy’ time, which has been a welcome reminder that I am more than ‘just’ a mum.

First up was my return to work after 13 months of maternity leave. To be honest, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I survived my first week (a whole three days) without any lasting damage and the initial feeling of dread has been replaced with something that almost feels like optimism. And not just because I get to wee without an audience, or dress like an actual grown up. Though that does help.

imageThen after a day of doing the school run, taking Izzy to dance class and then putting her to bed when she felt ill, it was time for a weekend away!

My friend is getting married in July so 29 of us stayed in this lovely guest house and cabins near Harrogate for her hen party. Friday night was quite messy. By the time the suprise naked butler arrived to serve drinks and help with some games the alcohol had been flowing for several hours already. I had to call it quits at 10.30pm, because I am a lightweight completely out of practice.

Saturday morning, I was broken and still had the shakes at the wine tasting. I wasn’t a big fan of the wine but it was really interesting to learn all about it and it was a good laugh with a large group of us. The evening was slightly more civilised than the previous. We headed into Harrogate for a lovely meal and then on to a bar for a couple of drinks before going back to the guest house for a dip in the hot tub.

The weekend was rounded off perfectly with afternoon tea at Betty’s Tearoom. I think I’m getting old as I just needed a good cup of tea by that point!

It was really nice getting to catch up with friends that I don’t get to see very often now we are all spread out over the country (and in other countries!) Even those of us who live close by don’t get much time to see each other. Mainly as I’m the first of the group to have children and am in bed by 9 instead of partying am rubbish at fitting everything in!

I did miss my crazy girls and I got big hugs when I got home. It sounds like they had lots of fun at a wildlife park though, as Izzy volunteered to hold another snake!
